Jessie White, 32, is Raven’s paramedic partner. Raised in the projects by a single mom, Jessie always dreamed of having a family, but she never wanted to depend on a man to support her. She went to nursing school, then applied to be a paramedic and was accepted. She loves her job.
She met her husband, Richard while she was attending nursing school. He was an action and adventure junky and she fell in love not only with him but also with his enjoyment of risk-taking. Richard dedicated his life to becoming a fireman after 9/11 and succeeded. But it wasn’t enough for him, so he joined the Army and deployed to Afghanistan where he lost an arm to a roadside bomb. Jessie stood by him through the anger, a severe case of PTSD, and his subsequent healing that allowed him to reclaim his fireman job despite his missing arm. They have a seven-year-old daughter who is the bright spot in both of their lives.
Jessie knows that Raven is suffering from PTSD and encourages her to get help. She is the one person who gets in Raven’s face and tells her the truth, no holds barred. Because she went through this with her husband, she has no desire to see Raven go down the same, dark hole that Richard did. As Raven grows more secretive, however, Jessie struggles to avoid estrangement from her friend and partner.
